From 2012 to 2013
The philosopher Seneca stated: Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.
Perhaps we recognize and pay attention to that truth more at this time of year than any other. We look both backward and forward, reflecting and projecting. That is exactly what Julius Caesar had in mind when he officially standardized the Julian Calendar and named the first month January, after Janus: the god with two faces, one looking to the past, the other to the future.
The poet T.S. Eliot said: What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.
At midnight tonight we change the name of the year from 2012 to 2013. The past has gone before and is indeed gone from all except our memories. The future is not yet and has no more reality than our imaginations give it. Reality is present, in the present, here and now. The habit of looking back to recollect the past and looking ahead to prepare for the future can give us firm footing in the NOW.
You may wish to download this simple document to apply your Gratitude, Appreciation and Forgiveness to looking back at 2012 and ahead to 2013.
The activity is simple.
Take as much time as you wish to consider the Gratitude, Appreciation, and Forgiveness with which you reflect on events you experienced in 2012.
Take as much time as you wish to know the Gratitude, Appreciation, and Forgiveness with which you affirm will occur for you in 2013.
What you then do with the two lists is entirely up to you. Some suggestions:
- Reflect on the 2012 list once; reflect on your 2013 lists repeatedly for several days.
- Allow your mind to visualize items you’ve listed for 2013.
- Pray affirmatively to manifest your 2013 list.
And you need not stop at 10, though the attached document has only 10 bullets for each year
An additional, powerful way to embrace 2013 with your Spirituality is paying conscious attention to the Five Unity Principles. Below are five starter questions you may find helpful:
- Principle 1: How will you encourage and allow your Self to know the Power and the Presence that is All Good?
- Principle 2: How will you actively experience, realize the Divinity you are?
- Principle 3: What will you do to help yourself continually realize that your thoughts determine your reality?
- Principle 4: What plans do you have to grow your conscious communication, your creative communication with God?
- Principle 5: And what will you DO—not just think or believe, but DO—to realize these principles?
Wishing you and all your family and friends a Happy New Year!
