Om, my God!
I usually meditate to a mantra. I usually mediate to my 108 mala beads, 1 bead per breath.
Being a rather wordy sort, I used phrases as my mantras:
I love God. God loves me.
I breathe in life. I breathe out love.
Thank you, God.
Bless you, God.
But yesterday I didn’t want to focus on meaning. I remembered the powerful phrase OM.
The OM symbol (visual) stands for the sacred syllable (audible) and represents Brahman, the “nature of truth, knowledge and infinity.” Powerful stuff.
The vibration produced by chanting Om in the physical universe corresponds to the original vibration that first arose at the time of creation. Pronounced A-U-M, each sound represents some aspect of the physical universe: waking (A), dreaming (U), deep sleeping (M). The silence between each repetition is believed to be the state of perfect bliss.
So that’s what I medi-stated: Ahh–Oooh–Emmmm.Slowly. Louder than usually.
In no fewer than 10 repetitions, I laid aside my mala beads. The vibration-silence-vibration-silence rhythm was awesome enough to keep me focused. Nor did I need to enforce my meditating for a substantial time.
I just om’d. And om’d and om’d some more, until there seemed nothing else to do, no reason to do anything else.
Beautiful way to open the day, to open my heart.
