Expressing Peace. Humor. 28
Humor gives me peace. All kinds of humor: from a very slight grin to 5 minutes of breath-stealing laughter.
I like the humor of plays on words. I like the humor of word-play more than most people, perhaps. I grew up on knock-knock jokes. It’s fun that a riddle makes me chuckle that “I should have gotten that!” A funny sight tickles: the skunk with its nose wedged in a Styrofoam cup. Bird mating rituals make me laugh. As do some human mating rituals. I smile at the humor that candy immediately arrests a child’s sobs.
Humor peace frees us. Perhaps only for a moment. Yet for that moment we experience the distraction, the release, the energy expression, the mental relaxation and the emotional relief.
Make a moment free. Recall something amusing, funny, surprisingly humorous that you have seen. See it again from your heart. Do you feel that humor peace?
Make another moment free. Recall a sound or statement or series of un-serious words that made you smile or grin or chuckle or guffaw. Hear that again with your heart. Feel the humor peace within?
Continue with more free moments with your other senses. Then take the exercises to places you’ve visited and to specific times of day. Apply it to food you’ve cooked and eaten, to suitcases you’ve packed, to cars you’ve washed and rooms you’ve painted. Just remember to notice if you feel that humor peace.
Most importantly, you can apply it to yourself. What have you done – intentionally or not – that was hilarious? What opportunities have you created for you to laugh at yourself? What chances have you given others to laugh at you with you? Inner Peace?
Humor opens our Being — mind, heart, self-vision — to the Peace we are, the Peace we have. Humor lets us realize the Peace, enjoy the Peace.
Laughing God,
how good it feels to laugh
and leaves us feeling good.
How sweet it feels to smile
and see another’s smile returned.
How young it feels to grin
wide and broad and let the humor show.
Peace is always in us
and always wanting to come out.
Each time we laugh,
each smile we share,
each grin we show
tells us and all around us
of the Peace we are, the Peace we give,
the Peace we love to laugh.
And so it is.
And so we thank you, GOD.
Amen. Amen.
Enjoy Peace. Express Peace.
