Everywhere Spring

by William Warby

What a beautiful morning experiencing so many Spring blessings.

I sat on our front porch, surrounded by sunrise and birdsong and cool breeze. Today’s the 11th day of what I call my 100 Day Prayer Vital (rather than “vigil”). It’s sweet attention to specific parts of the prayer start to my day.

As Cindy and I shared coffee, we heard two doves love-wrestle in the maple tree. Then watched them move to the next-door roof peak and dance a love-dove jig.

I ran. And as I ran two butterflies chased one another twice around my shoulders. A mile or so later a road runner darted across the street in front of me; then paused as though to see if I would chase.

I ran past a woman whose stride was lively. She offered, “It’s a great morning, eh?” I agreed. She added, “Remember, the speed limit here is 30. Watch yourself.” I laughed loud as I waved over my head.

Good Friend God,
The blessings with which you surround us
are beautiful to view: colorful blossoms, green trees, blue skies;
and comforting to feel: warm breezes, peaceful evenings;
and pleasing to smell: spring rain, cut grass.
The cycles of these blessings gives us joy throughout the year,
not only in spring
yet especially in spring.
And we say ‘Thank you!’
And so it is. Amen.
