Praying is creative!
Ellen Debenport says “praying is the creative thinking that heightens the connection with God-mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity and everything good. ”
I agree and offer that if all praying is right, then praying creatively has to be right, too. And when it comes to praying, I define creative as “without limits.”
In fact, the more ways you can and do unlimit your praying, the better.
- The better you feel about praying.
- The better you find praying as fun and easy.
- The better you are at knowing you really can pray about anything
- …at any time
- …in any place
- …for any reason
- …in any way!
Here’s the trick to upping your prayer creativity.
Forget about the words.
I’m betting God hears me in ways I haven’t even identified as communication. I know God hears me when I dance the evening’s thank-you-for-this-dynamite-day. I’m sure God hears (sees) the prayers I draw that Sybil Macbeth (Praying in Color) has let me love. No doubt God feels the prayers I smile “God blesses you. I bless you” to total strangers.
So, wants some tips to creativize your approach to praying?
- As you do something you enjoy, feel your prayer. The words, remember, don’t matter. Neither does what you’re doing. It may be CREATIVE like singing, dancing, or painting. Or it may be creative like washing dishes or the car, picking up dirty socks, or telling a goodnight story.
- As you do something you feel is creative, recognize what you’re doing is a prayer. The very fact that you are doing it–even if it has no I’m-talking-to-God content–makes it a prayer.
- As you say (or write or feel or think) a prayer, let your creative thoughts make it more beautiful. Feel yourself dancing as you pray. See your prayer as beautiful sculpture or poem. Hear symphony soar from your praying.
Praying is creative. Being creative is praying.
