Why not pray for prosperity?
I recently sent the draft of my Praying for Prosperity program to Rev. Eileen Ramsey and asked for her critique.
Right off the bat she gave me this wonderful suggestion:
Praying for something indicates subtly that [something] is missing from one’s life. The more one prays for something, the more the gap is reinforced. In Truth, nothing is missing. A minor shift in the title and instruction from Praying for Prosperity to something like Prosperity Praying seems minor, however has subtle, subconscious reinforcement.
And that got me thinking. And thinking. And praying. And praying. And finally I stopped thinking and listened to my praying. What I heard was bigger and broader and brighter than my retitled Praying Prosperity ideas. It was what Rev. Eileen was talking about as she was referring to the Truth that applies to everything, not just prosperity.
When I pray for love, I’m saying in effect that I am without love. And every time I repeat the prayer for love, I am affirming that I don’t have love.
And when I pray for rain. And when I pray for health. And when I pray for peace. And when I pray for prosperity.
I take liberty with Rev. Eileen’s statement: In Truth, nothing is missing. I shift it to this: In Truth, everything is present. And available. Knowing that, affirming that in prayer allows us to know the Truth.
You may think “praying prosperity” is awkward, even grammatically incorrect. After all, there’s no preposition like we’re used to. But I feel praying is affirming, stating the truth. I aim to affirm prosperity as present. And available. I am praying prosperity.
Thank you, Rev. Eileen!
