Joy: Source of Happiness
I am currently experiencing a 21-day meditation practice (Expanding Your Happiness). My intention is to understand more deeply the link between my innate Joy and my of-this-world happiness.
We’re only on Day 3, so I can’t report much. But I’m mindful of being wholly grateful that I know I AM Divine Joy. I receive so many signs.
Early this summer, Julie, an acquaintance from 20 years ago in graduate school, invited “the first 7 friends” on Facebook to allow her to engage in a Pay It Forward initiative. I replied “I’m in” and learned she planned sometime in the next calendar year to send those who signed on “a surprise from me.”
Two days ago as I finished Day 1 of the happiness meditation, Alex (pictured) barked at the mail-person leaving the mail at the door. I looked out the window, saw a box atop the several envelopes. I thought it was Cindy’s order of her newly published book. Nope, it was addressed to me. As I’d ordered nothing, it took more than a minute for me to register the name on the return address.
It was the surprise from Julie. A small jar of homemade strawberry preserves and a card. Both happy-filled my heart. The wonderful note, the note accompanying a gift to me, thanked me!! “Thanks for your generous spirit. You inspire and motivate me.”
When I opened the package and read the note, Julie caused my smile, my laughter, and my tears. Deeper than that, the connection we (all) have that is more than just “through Facebook” let me feel my Joy. Deepest of all Joy created those signs, signs of the Joy from which we are created, the Joy we share, the Joy we are.
Joyful Presence, surrounding me and fulfilling me,
I express our Joy by giving thanks
by offering help
by sharing love
by laughing out loud
by loving what is
by knowing Truth
by savoring beauty
by feeling Your strength
by making time for Us
by respecting Silence
that I may hear Your Voice,
that I may sing Your Song,
that I may Be.
And so it is.
Amen!
Be happy. Know your joy as you know you’re Joy.
