Expressing Peace. Instant Praying. 21.

Instant Praying Pickup

An Instant’s Prayer

Here’s a recipe for Instant Praying.

When you feel up a tree and out on a limb, or out to sea and in over your head, or backed into a corner and up against a wall, there are plenty of recommendations for calming down.

Praying is the best recommendation. Praying brings peace. Better than taking a deep breath. Better than thinking peaceful thoughts. Better than seeing beautiful images. Better than counting to 10.

OK. Actually, praying can be taking a deep breath, thinking peaceful thoughts, seeing beautiful images, counting to 10. Praying can be any of an infinite number of actions, spoken or not! Praying is knowing the action as connection to Spirit.

Praying gets lots of attention. Lots of formality. Lots of expectation. Lots of “right way to do it” ritualizing.

I’ve had more than one person say, “Oh, I can’t pray with someone else…” or “No, I’d be embarrassed to pray out loud…” or “I don’t know how to pray the right way…”

I didn’t know the right way either and so I couldn’t pray with others. Until I learned there is no right way. Because there is no wrong way. If there’s no wrong, there’s no “right”. Every way is fine.

Full Time Spirit,
Let us know and enjoy the many ways
of connecting with you.
Let us realize that words
are not the only medium.
Let us feel the Oneness
in our steps and in our smiles,
with our blinking and our cooking,
from a good night’s sleep
and a hard day’s work.
Let us realize
and help us remember
that when we’re glad for a stranger’s smile
we are praying.
Help us know when we allow someone into our lane
we are praying.
Show us that as we gather a paper scrap to throw away
we are praying.
All this in an instant.
And so it is. Amen. Amen.

Enjoy Peace. Express Peace.
