The Four Agreements

Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements fulfills by its message, its intention, and its simplicity. That fulfillment is experiencing the peace living the Four Agreements brings.

Be impeccable with your word. When you speak the truth, mean what you say and fulfill what you promise, you never have any reason to worry about your words. You know that the power of your words is grounded, sincere, and has integrity. That can only result in peace.

Don’t take anything personally. Realize and remember (remind yourself) that each of us creates our own reality. How someone treats you, reacts to you, speaks to you is their reality. When you know you are immune to others’ opinions, you will enjoy your own peace.

Don’t make assumptions. Ask questions to remove doubt and fear and uncertainty. Misunderstandings are a frequent cause of unnecessary sadness and drama. Clarify and verify what you hear others say, what you see others do. Removing assumptions opens the door to an inflow of peace.

Always do your best.  If you judge yourself negatively, harshly, unfairly just once, you are doing so too often. If you know that, given the true conditions of the moment, you have done your best, you dispose of regret. Knowing that you’ve done your best in this instance does not mean you cannot, will not, do better next time. It means you can (and should) be at peace with the best you’ve done here, now.

Guiding Spirit,
leading us to live these Four Agreements
gives us the power and the peace to know
truly and to be completely our Self.
As we live and follow your Word,
the truth and meaning of our word
offered to another verifies our Being.
As we realize what we express is our reality,
the freedom of defining our own self worth
is ours to live.
As we discard assumptions by asking what we want
to know, we bring to light the certainty
that sources peace and happiness.
As we know that whatever we do is our best,
we live with peace that we offer fully of ourselves
to others and to our world.
For these Agreements with ourselves
we thank you, GOD.
And so it is. Amen. Amen.

Enjoy Peace. Express Peace.
